JOBS AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Quality of life begins with a paycheck. We need to be more business friendly and work even harder to bring new jobs to our region and our City. Our small businesses generating $15 million or less are providing employment opportunities and business activity in our community. They should be acknowledged and appreciated more for what they do for our City. My experience in owning and running a small business for over 29 years gives me a good understanding of the problems that businesses face, large and small. I have a very good inside-out view of managing and running a business. I believe that it is important for community leaders and business leaders to step up and put themselves out for public office. I am happy and humbled to serve our community as an at-Large City Council person.

PUBLIC SAFETY

All citizens of our City must be able to enjoy their homes and communities in a safe environment. The majority of citywide surveys indicate that public safety is the number one issue. The Greensboro Police Department has experienced tremendous amounts of changes over the last several years including dealing with three different police chiefs. Focusing on crime prevention through community policing is our best opportunity regarding safety. The substations that now circle our city allow citizens to have a closer, more personal relationship with the Police Department. However, there is no substitute for the investment our City must make in personnel and state of the art equipment to better serve our community.

TRANSPARENCY

Transparency promotes accountability and provides information for citizens. As City Council representatives we are servants of the public. Citizens should always be aware of what their governing body is doing. To ensure public trust we must work toward the goal of establishing a method of transparency that includes engaging public participation and collaboration. Such forthrightness will strengthen our City and promote efficiency, productivity and effectiveness in our day to day operations. I will continue to ensure that taxpayer money is being used in a manner that eliminates wasteful spending.

VISION

I believe that there should be a 10 year vision established for the City of Greensboro. We need a clear, well thought out plan for our future that we can all work together to fulfill. Long term sustainability plans must include measures to preserve the environment and boost development in economics so our needs can be met now and also in the future. Our plan should be one that is equitable, bearable and livable as we face our social challenges.

“As a Council member, I would like to see better communication and more direct accountability from our valued employees.”
